Dinçer DEMİRHAN

The first postal organization was established on 23 October 1840 as a Ministry in order to respond to the postal needs of the Ottoman Empire with the Tanzimat Edict. After 11 years, the telegraph service began, and a separate Telegraph Directorate was established in 1855 to discipline this service. In 1871, the Ministry of Postal and the Telegraph Directorate were merged and transformed into the Ministry of Post and Telegraph.

In 1876, an international mail transmission network was established, and in 1901, the acceptance of parcel and money transfer transactions began. In 1913, it was renamed the General Directorate of Post, Telegraph and Telephone.

The General Directorate of the PTT, which was a Public Economic Enterprise in 1954, was transferred to the status of a Public Economic Organization with the decree number 233 issued in 1984 regarding the reorganization of Public Economic State Enterprises.

With Article 24 of the Law No. 4502, which entered into force on January 29, 2000, the name of the organization from "Turkish Republic General Directorate of Postal Enterprise" was changed to " Turkish Republic General Directorate of Post and Telegraph Organization (PTT)".

With the "Postal Services Law" numbered 6475, which entered into force on May 23, 2013, the duties of the organization were rearranged and restructured with the name of "Post and Telegraph Organization Inc."
