The Future of Transport was Discussed at the International IAEE2024 Conference
The 45th IAEE International Conference, which brought together energy professionals from the private and public sectors as well as academics from around the world, was hosted by Boğaziçi University in Istanbul between 26-28 June 2024 in cooperation with the Turkish Association for Energy Economics (TRAEE) and the International Association for Energy Economics (IAEE).
IAEE has been organising an international conference since 1979 and senior government officials, private sector leaders and leading academics have been participating in these conferences as speakers and discussants.
This year's 45th conference, titled "Energy Sustainability, Security, Efficiency and Accessibility in Transition", addressed oil and gas security, climate change and limitation of greenhouse gas emissions, uncertainties in energy prices, problems the world will face in meeting future energy needs and long-term technology options.
Esma Dilek, President of the Association, made a presentation at the session on "The Future of the Transport Sector" in the conference programme. In her presentation, Dilek gave information about the technologies and applications used in transport systems and the projects and activities carried out to shape the future of transport in Türkiye. Dilek shared up-to-date information on the National Intelligent Transport Systems Architecture, National ITS Platform, TRota, Türkiye's first Mobility as a Service mobile application, TürkiyeKart, an electronic payment system that can be used in public transport options in different cities, U-Charge electric charging infrastructures, C-ITS Test Corridor, R&D projects carried out with universities, innovative projects carried out in Türkiye to increase the effectiveness, efficiency and safety of transport systems with artificial intelligence, and stated that all these studies are carried out within the framework of the National Intelligent Transport Systems Strategy Document and Action Plans.
Referring to Türkiye's future transport vision, Dilek stated that they benefit from technological developments and innovations in all modes of transport; they carry out their work in cooperation and exchange of views with public institutions and organisations, private sector, NGOs, academia and strive to contribute to Türkiye's 2053 Net Zero Emission target.
