SmartUniversal was founded in 2020 to operate in the fields of connected and autonomous vehicles, construction machinery, agricultural vehicles, loading vehicle software development, and end-to-end system integrations. This company transforms its existing technical expertise in connected and unmanned systems into practical, field-applicable solutions through EU-supported research projects and OEM collaborations. It also conduct studies on equipping various types of vehicles, currently used in smart construction, transportation, and logistics, with autonomy and teleoperation capabilities.
The software product portfolio developed by SmartUniversal includes an autonomous construction machinery behavior simulator, control software, environmental perception software, teleoperation software, and autonomous navigation software, all of which have been validated in the field. The company's founders, Dr. İlhan Kubilay Yalçın and Dr. Oğuz İçoğlu, previously worked on autonomous construction truck projects as part of various EU-funded R&D projects at Ford Otosan and transferred their expertise to SmartUniversal. Before that, they collaborated at TÜBİTAK BİLGEM, working on signal processing tasks for camera and radar systems, and carried out software and system engineering activities in these projects.
In SmartUniversal's pioneering projects, our focus has been the development of 'smart construction' technologies, taking on the role of autonomizing construction machinery. They believe that the construction sector is highly suitable for artificial intelligence and autonomy applications and will soon be integrated into real-world operations. As a byproduct of these efforts, they have developed BVLOS (beyond visual line of sight) remote control and sensing capabilities, which can also be used for other vehicles. They are now extending our expertise to new projects in transportation vehicles, sea taxis, and factory-internal robots (AGVs).
